09 Feb Do You Own Every Rep?
So often eager trainees get caught short in a conundrum between progressively overloading and keeping perfect form. It even has them pondering which is more important!
Truth is, they both are! Bad form is a recipe for injuries and not enough load means very little in the way of muscle being gained.
So where do we start with trying to keep everything consistent and ensure your progressive overload and progress is being monitored most effectively?
In our opinion it’s really simple – there is just one question you need to ask yourself after each set:
DO YOU OWN IT?
What we mean here is, if we asked you to pause at any point in the range of an exercise, could you do it? If the answer is no, then you do not own those reps and are using too much momentum or load.
If you can safely answer yes the chances are you are performing that exercise well and loading the correct musculature. Be honest with yourself, check yourself and make sure that you are truly progressing.
