Transformation Thursday: Couple’s Edition

7 years and 3 days ago I first met my now wife, Chandni.

To celebrate, and the fact we’re going to soon be a family of four (in 3-4 weeks!), we went on a mini trip to the South of France.
It got me thinking today…

Your partner is maybe the biggest decision you can make in life.

No field is more apparent than in fitness.

Because I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard partners are the reason you’re either 1) not starting your transformation, 2) struggling with consistency.

Support is key.

Not just practically (who’s looking after the kids while you train?), but emotionally too.

That’s why I’ve made this week’s Transformation Thursday newsletter ‘Couple’s Edition.’

It’s a little different, and rooted in a few things that have helped me.

Let’s dive in…

3 Ways To Feel, Look & Perform Better

1. Communicate Goals Early (And Often)

Planning to train for a marathon? Commit to more gym time? Have the conversation early.

Explain your ‘why’ and come with a plan, especially if it affects shared time or responsibilities. Transparency builds trust and support.

When your partner understands where you’re coming from, it’s easier for them to get on board

It becomes something you’re navigating together, not something you’re pushing through alone or forcing into an already packed calendar.

And don’t stop at one conversation. Keep checking in as life inevitably changes.

2. Create Shared Anchor Points

In the midst of a busy life, whether you're managing careers, kids, or simply juggling daily demands, routines can quickly fall apart.

That’s where anchor points come in.

These are simple, shared rituals that you and your partner (or even your family or housemates) commit to consistently, like sitting down for breakfast together each morning, or making time for dinner at the table in the evenings.

They might seem small, but they carry big weight.

These moments act as daily check-ins, where you reconnect, ground your day, and naturally stay more aligned with your health and lifestyle habits.

When you eat the same meals, you’re more likely to stay on track together. When you walk or stretch together, you reinforce movement as a shared value.

Even on the most chaotic days, these anchor points provide a rhythm.

3. Don’t Chase ‘Perfect’ Routines, Adaptability Wins

One of the biggest traps people fall into when trying to get fit, especially within the context of a relationship, parenthood, or a busy lifestyle, is waiting for the perfect routine.

But if your health routine depends on everything going smoothly, it’ll collapse the moment life does what life always does: get messy.
Instead, the secret is adaptability.

When routines get derailed (kids, late nights, travel), focus on the basics: getting in movement, eating well, and sleeping where you can.

The goal isn’t perfection, it’s consistency over time.

Want To Dive Deeper?

Get to know an RNT couple from the Hall of Fame…

In a recent episode of RNT Fitness Radio, I was joined by Arti and Vinay Shah from Uganda, who started their RNT journeys in 2024, and have completely transformed their mind, body and lifestyles together.

After Vinay’s brother had a heart attack, he was propelled into taking action on getting back control of his health, especially as his doctor was pushing him to take statins for his cholesterol. Arti, on the other hand, always thought she was healthy, given her vegan diet.

Whilst she joined initially to support Vinay, she quickly realised how much she had to gain from a proper nutrition strategy and a lifestyle change.

This episode is a great example of going all in on transforming as a couple.
