Ep 472 - If You're Pre-Checkpoint, This Is For You

[00:06]
This episode is dedicated to you if you haven’t hit your checkpoint yet.
By checkpoint, I mean the moment when you reach the best physical shape of your life.
If that hasn’t happened yet, I’d consider this episode non-negotiable listening.
Because while we often talk about lifestyle solutions and maintaining results long-term, the reality is this: if your goal is to get into the best shape of your life, your life will need to change.

Why You Can’t “Have Your Cake and Eat It” Yet

[00:15]
Let’s be honest.
If you're eating out every week, a few times a week, or constantly trying to figure out how to “have your cake and eat it” before you reach your checkpoint — you're missing the point.
Now, there’s an important caveat here.
If you're traveling frequently or attending client dinners, sometimes you can’t avoid certain situations. That’s understandable.
But if you’re actively trying to sneak in desserts, extra meals, or indulgences before reaching your checkpoint, you’re slowing down the very progress you're trying to make.

The Goal of the Process Phase

[01:02]
In the RNT transformation journey, we call this Phase Two: The Process Phase.
The focus here is simple:
  • Drop 0.5% to 1% of your body weight per week
  • Continue until you reach your checkpoint
The key goal of this phase is simple:
Get in. Get out.
If you're currently in this phase, the worst thing you can do is delay progress by lowering your standards.
Momentum is everything.

Big Results Require Big Changes

[01:22]
The best results come when you're willing to make meaningful changes.
That might mean:
  • Turning down a few social events
  • Changing the type of social activities you do
  • Eating a simple salad at a work event
  • Drinking Diet Coke at the pub
  • Going for a walk at 10 p.m.
  • Waking up early to get movement in
In short:
You need to become the leader of your own life.

Leadership in Your Own Lifestyle

[01:41]
Being a leader means making tough decisions.
Sometimes that means saying no to:
  • Events
  • People
  • Plans
But it can also mean leading the change.
Instead of meeting a friend for drinks, maybe you go for a walk.
Instead of sitting meetings, maybe you suggest a walking meeting.
Instead of a café catch-up with pastries, maybe it's black coffee and a walk.
Stop trying to have your cake and eat it before you’ve achieved life-changing results.

Save Flexibility For Later

[02:05]
Flexibility comes later.
In the RNT journey, that happens during Phase Four: The Investment Phase, when you build your lifestyle solution.
That’s when you learn how to balance life, food, and results long term.
But you have to earn the right to get there.
Until then, focus on getting your checkpoint done.

Why This Phase Matters

[02:17]
Think about this.
You may have spent 1 to 30 years building habits that led you to where you are today.
Those habits are the reason you're seeking change now.
So trying to squeeze indulgences into the transformation process is simply repeating the same patterns.
You’ve already had plenty of cake — and it didn’t get you where you want to go.

You’ll Still Enjoy Life Later

[02:41]
The good news?
You will absolutely enjoy those things later.
Once you reach your checkpoint and enter the investment phase, you can build a lifestyle where:
  • You enjoy desserts
  • You eat out regularly
  • You maintain great shape
For example, I personally have dessert multiple times a week now.
But that comes after earning the right to build that balance.

Expect It To Be Hard

[02:56]
Getting to your checkpoint will likely be one of the hardest things you ever do.
And that’s the point.
If it were easy, you’d have already done it.
The difficulty is what makes it powerful.
Change the narrative in your mind.
Instead of thinking:
“This is hard.”
Think:
“This is what taking control of my life looks like.”

The Reality of the Transformation Process

[03:18]
Yes, the food may feel boring.
Yes, the walks may be long.
Yes, the routine might feel repetitive.
But here’s the truth:
Commit fully to the process, and you’ll find a surprising amount of peace, confidence, and joy along the way.

Why This Journey Matters

[03:38]
I’ve been doing this for over 15 years.
If there were an easier way that delivered the same results, I’d be talking about it on this podcast.
And to keep myself honest, I still go through shredding phases every few years to test the system again.
And the truth?
It’s still the same grind.
But it’s also still one of the most powerful personal development tools that exists.

What “Going All-In” Really Means

[04:08]
Now let me clarify something.
Going all-in does not mean:
  • Living like a hermit
  • Giving up your life
  • Canceling everything
What it does mean is committing to the process.
No matter what life throws at you, you make the best decision available in that moment to keep moving forward.
Because you are committed to your why.

Final Message

[05:05]
If you're currently on the journey to your checkpoint, use this episode whenever your motivation dips.
Remind yourself why you started.
Because later — once you've achieved the transformation — you'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the flexibility.
But right now?
Your focus is simple:
Get in. Get out. Build momentum.
And reach the best shape of your life.
