Before we get started, have you subscribed to my new newsletter, Built for Life? It lands in your inbox every Tuesday and Friday.
Each issue breaks down one principle, one problem, why it’s happening, and exactly what to do instead—with real examples you can apply the same day.
It’s designed to help you look, feel, and perform your best without obsession.
Most fitness advice is either too complicated or too generic to actually use. Built for Life cuts through all of that.
I’m really excited about this project. The feedback so far has been incredible, and I’d love to see you on the inside.
34 Truths That Hit Me at 34
I recently turned 34, and a couple of days before my birthday, one of my team members said,
“Do you fancy doing a post called 34 Sentences That Hit Me Like a Ton of Bricks?”
I asked what she wanted me to talk about, and she said:
“Just write random thoughts—things that have changed your thinking or things you’ve been reflecting on lately.”
I loved the idea.
So over lunch that day, I went out on my own, opened my notes app, and just started writing.
What came out were thoughts around death, desire, money, ambition, relationships, kids, identity, and meaning.
And while maybe none of these ideas are completely new, one thing I’ve learned is this:
You have to live through lessons to truly understand them. Otherwise, it’s just intellectual sparring.
So let’s dive in.
The 34 Truths
01.
If I live until 80, I’m already 40% of the way in.
02.
When you die, you won’t remember a thing.
No one will care.
Nothing you create is as important as you think.
03.
Most people live the same year for 60 years and then die.
Question every life choice.
The typical path is typical for a reason.
04.
The world is one giant amusement park, and you can play any character or game you like.
05.
The hardest part is figuring out what you truly want.
Getting it is usually easier.
If the desire doesn’t consume you, it probably isn’t real.
06.
Most of what you think you want is actually what other people want.
07.
Trying to change the world can become a distraction from changing yourself.
08.
At some point, you have to put away the books, podcasts, and coaches—and find your own way.
09.
Leverage beats effort.
Systems beat hustle.
Thinking time is still work.
10.
The first £100,000 in revenue will likely be the hardest money you ever make.
11.
In business, you’ll have a few great years, a few rough years, and mostly average years.
Make hay while the sun is shining.
12.
Until you generate passive income, you’ll always need to show up to work.
13.
People-based coaching businesses are difficult to scale and fragile by nature.
14.
Lawsuits love Friday afternoons.
Welcome to the game.
15.
Your income does not determine your self-worth as an entrepreneur.
16.
Money without time is a trap.
17.
Money won’t make you happy, but it will stop you worrying about not having it.
18.
Pain can fuel you in the beginning.
But if you never change fuel source, it will eventually destroy you.
19.
High performers don’t struggle with laziness.
They struggle with feeling undeserving when success comes without suffering.
20.
Everything you use to optimize your life can eventually become something that controls you.
21.
When you finally get the six-pack, you realize it wasn’t what you truly wanted.
22.
Goals, targets, and visions can become distractions from actually experiencing life.
23.
Who you marry—or don’t marry—has one of the biggest impacts on your quality of life.
24.
If you have the right woman, she will challenge you because she wants to see you grow.
25.
When people say they do everything for their kids, they’re often not being fully honest.
26.
Once you have kids, society will try to push you through a system. Resist it.
27.
Your children are always watching you.
Everything you do matters.
28.
Children expose how much you fear judgment from others.
29.
The expectations you think your parents placed on you can quietly shape your entire life—until you break free from them.
30.
Nobody truly has life figured out.
31.
Learn to accept reality.
Sometimes, “It is what it is” is the healthiest mindset.
32.
Your house, your business, your relationships—everything can disappear at any moment.
33.
Reality exists only in the mind.
We experience the world through perception.
34.
Who am I without the business, the physique, the goals, or the identity?
